About

Aldernic is umbrella term for people who have, or wish to have, a body that deviates from what they currently have, what is expected in society, or typical human notions in general. In short, it's an umbrella for any experience that has to do with having or wanting a different body.Someone's aldernic identity can be called an alder, or aldern. What does this include?:
- People who want a body that deviates from what is typical among humans / the binary
- People whose "internal body" / identity body-wise is simply different from their physical one
- People who want varying sex organs from the norm (can range from simply having both binary sets to completely alien or non-normative experiences)
- People who want to or have done body modification of any kind
- People who do not feel as though they fit into a “male” or “female” body, and instead desire an ambiguous, nonhuman, or other nontraditional body.
- Alternatively, it may include those who, for instance, want both a "male" and "female" body
- People who want a completely nonhuman body, such as an animal, being, concept, or otherwise
- Many more...
Important to note that aldernic is not a gender umbrella in itself. While for some, it may conflate with their gender, or even be a gender, on its own it is completely divorced from it. Your body =/= your gender.Aldernic may refer to those who wish to have a certain kind of body, those who already have a certain kind of body (such as in a system, internal identity, or fictional narratives), and other experiences. Those who are aldernic may or may not have some kind of dysphoria or dysmorphia. Aldernic individuals may only want smaller changes done to their body, they may want to do life-changing things, they may want to do things that are very much so possible, or they may want a completely fantastical or nonhuman-esque body.Furthermore, they might simply have this body already, such as internally (internal identification), in-system, or in a way that describes a fictional character. As such, alongside queer people, aldernic experiences may be common among alterhumans. (Important to note that you do not need to identify as queer nor alterhuman to use this label, though aldernic is generally considered a queer term.)Here is the original coining post.

FAQ

  • How is this different from altersex?: Altersex is specifically referring to someone's sex. Some are also uncomfortable with how similar it sounds to "intersex," though this depends on the individual.

  • Isn't this dangerous or unhealthy?: Nope! I fully encourage body autonomy and the decisions of others on what they perceive themselves, want themselves, etc. to be is their choice.

  • How do you pronounce aldernic?: All-duhr-nick.

  • Can I make a subtype?: Yes, always.

  • What is a simple definition of aldernic?: "Someone who has or wants to have a body that differs from the norm." You could also simply say "someone whose bodily identity is divergent or nonconforming."

  • Is this a gender? Is this alterhuman?: It can be a part of one's gender or alterhumanity. However, neither is inherent. Aldernic is it's own identity separate (but can be intertwined with) those concepts, just like notions of orientation and gender.

  • What kinds of body am I allowed to have/want under aldernic?: Pretty much anything. Of course, exceptions do apply; use common sense. Don't use this to be a bigot or claim the experiences of minorities (ie don't use this term to be like "i'm white but identify as black!," that's gross.)

  • Can I add this to a wiki?: Ask beforehand.
